What to Include in Your Wedding Day ‘Details’ Box

A Bride’s Guide to Stress-Free Morning Prep

By Beatrice Siyanbola for Boslens Studios

You’ve spent months planning every beautiful element of your wedding. The florals, the rings, the vow books, your shoes, your stationery suite, and all those stunning little details that make your love story uniquely yours.

But on the morning of your wedding? You should be busy soaking it all in. You won’t want to be running around trying to find your perfume bottle or your groom’s cufflinks for a flatlay photo. That’s where the wedding details box comes in.

At Boslens Studios, we always tell our brides: if you want magazine worthy flatlay photos and a calm, organised start to your big day, you need to create a curated details box and you need to do it in advance. As a London Wedding Photographer, this one little step makes a huge difference to your final photo gallery.

What Is a Wedding Day Details Box?

A wedding day details box is exactly what it sounds like. A small container that holds all the personal items you want your photographer to capture in those gorgeous early morning shots. Think of it as a mini time capsule. A snapshot of your style, your story, and your sentimental pieces.

When packed thoughtfully, it ensures your photographer doesn’t miss a single thing. From your heirloom jewelry to your vow books, it brings together everything that visually narrates your day.

Why It Matters

Flatlay photos of your wedding rings, perfume, jewelry, invitation suite, and other sentimental items create a cohesive visual narrative. Think of them as the cover page of your love story. They often turn out to be some of the client’s favourite photos when the albums come together to tell the full picture of the day.

Plus, gathering everything in one place keeps the morning calm, clutter free, and efficient and preparing it at least a week before your wedding is a game changer. As a London luxury wedding photographer, it’s helpful when my clients are prepared in this way and I can dive into your story without missing a beat.

What to Include in Your Wedding Details Box

You’ll want to include your full stationery suite:

  • Invitation cards, RSVP cards, and envelopes with those elegant wax seals or custom stamps you picked out months ago. These details introduce your wedding aesthetic in your final gallery.

  • Add your wedding rings. Both yours and your groom’s. Flatlay photos of the engagement ring alongside the wedding bands always hit differently, especially when styled with the bride’s perfume bottle or a few floral accents from your bouquet.

  • Speaking of florals, ask your florist to set aside a few extra stems or petals for your photographer. Whether it’s a sprig from your bouquet or the groom’s boutonniere, flowers can breathe life, texture, and colour into the details shot.

  • Your wedding shoes deserve a moment too. Those sparkly heels or custom soles add personality to your flatlays, as do your bridal veil, gloves, clutch, or garter.

  • Do not forget your jewelry. Your earrings, bracelet, necklace, or hairpiece may seem small in the grand scheme but they help personalise your details photos and showcase your style.

  • If your groom’s accessories match the overall vibe, consider placing his bow tie, cufflinks, or cologne in the box as well. It creates a nice visual balance in the storytelling, especially when the final album includes his and hers prep shots.

And if you’ve chosen vow books or plan to exchange letters with your partner that morning, those absolutely deserve their own spotlight!

Assign a Details Box Handler

I know… it sounds like an overinflated role, but trust me!

Once everything’s gathered, place the items securely in a box that’s easy to carry. Organise smaller pieces into labelled pouches or cases so nothing gets misplaced in the morning rush.

And here’s a crucial pro tip. Assign someone reliable. It could be your maid of honour, your glam squad lead, or your wedding planner. Just make sure this person knows exactly how important that box is.

On the wedding morning, you’ll be deep in hair and makeup and emotions. This person should hand the box to the photographer first thing and be on hand to return rings to the ring bearer or best man after the flatlays are done. They should also make sure your accessories make it back to you or your glam team before it’s time to get dressed.

This one simple bit of pre planning pays off tenfold. As your photographer, I can work more efficiently. Your morning will feel more peaceful. And the final images will reflect not just the grandeur of your wedding day but also the tiny meaningful pieces that brought your love story to life. As photographers, we know how much thought you put into every tiny detail.

At Boslens Studios, every wedding is a visual love letter. The details box helps us write the first chapter with intention and heart. If you’re a bride to be and you want timeless photos that capture both the big moments and the personal touches, let’s connect. I would be honoured to tell your story through my lens.

Stay tuned,
